There are many different paths to being well. At Colchester Family Practice, we believe in supporting our patients, our staff, and our community in our individual and collective efforts to journey along the road to wellness. We are ‘Aiming for Wellness’: wellness for each of us and especially for the next generation.

This means helping our patients in a number of ways. Right now, patients at our practice benefit from:

  • Distribution of healthy recipes;
  • On-site food demos; and
  • Displays in our waiting room that show healthy eating ideas.

And that’s not all. Being thoughtful about wellness also extends to how we provide care. We now have health coaches on our Community Health Teams who help patients develop and act on individual wellness plans. We are also excited to pilot a program distributing weekly farm shares to 25 of our patients starting this summer.

Wellness also means that we must reflect back on ourselves as practitioners and as role models. For our staff, we believe that a fulfilling work place will help each staff member focus on his or her own wellness. We enjoy healthy lunches together; we walk or do other sporting events together; and we participate in fun social activities. Notice that word “together.” Wellness is more than the physical – it is the social, too. Being well ourselves means we can better provide for our patients. Inspired by that, we will host a “Know Your Numbers” staff in-service day and other events to educate ourselves about our own wellness – and what we may need to work on.

The warmer temperatures also signal one of my favorite activities of the season: the farmers’ market. We are bringing back our popular “Wellness Booth.” And it doesn’t stop there! Watch for a Community Wellness fair and community dinner this coming October. It’s a collaboration among the local school district and our own Fletcher Allen Community Health Improvement team and Colchester Family Practice.

At Colchester Family Practice, we are ‘Aiming for Wellness!’ from all possible angles. We believe that we should nurture any avenue to wellness and well being. Pause for a moment, take a deep breath, and find a way to do a little more than yesterday. What will you do to enhance your wellness today? Make a plan and make it happen – we will be here to help you!

Stop by the Colchester Farmers’ Market Wellness Booth. It will take place every Wednesday from 4pm-7pm. Check out the schedule below to see when you can attend.
